Finding a Balance: first week of classes edition

Falling into a new rhythm...I hope

With the start of the spring semester, comes with getting used to different things. Different classes, different wake up times, different schedules with your friends. No matter how different things are, your basic needs and wants are still the same; needing to be good at school - wanting to be the ultimate academic weapon, needing personal space/time - not wanting to just rot in bed, needing to see your friends - wanting to be college kid and have fun. It's important to find a good balance that works for YOU. This blog is documenting on what I'm doing to find a good balance for me to excel in my college career and who knows, maybe it might inspire you to find the right balance in your life.

First Day(s) of Class

Even though there is the one first day of class, I count it as two since you're experiencing first classes twice that week. Since its the first class, my day consisted of reading a syllabus for each class. With a lighter class load this week, it gave me more time to get organized with future assignments and really trying to set myself up the best as possible for the semester. I definitely think planners are a really great way to stay organized and top of your schedule, especially if you have a busy one like mine. I used to buy a physical planner from the store, but I never really used it, especially since I don't carry a bag around with me that much, so it never came with me. I also would just forget to update it a lot. I also just wasn't a big fan of using my calendar app on phone. Since my school gave us iPads, I have been using it more for class. So I thought a digital calendar and so far I like it a lot, particularly, I can redo any mistakes I made and I can create custom colors to help me stay organized and to make it as aesthetic as I want. Doing this also helps make feel more productive and that I feel like I'm doing a good job with trying to stay ahead and to make sure I don't mix up any of my due dates and deadlines. So academically this week, I feel really good and I'm not stressing over school, yet. Lol.

Spending time with friends

I have always believed that seeing your friends is so valuable to your mental health and just staying happy. So I always try to do something with my friends everyday, whether it's calling them and playing games, going out to a sit down dinner, or even just going to get slushies. Of course it's easier for me since I live with most of my friends in my sorority house and all I have to do is go three doors down. I am very grateful that I get to live with 25 of my best friends and I think that it does help me so much mentally and it reminds me that I'm not "missing anything" and that I won't look back at my college experience and think that I didn't do much or have any significant memories. It was easier this week to have more spontaneous plans since the semester just started and things aren't in full swing yet. I'm sure the second week of school will be more different since it's a full week of classes, clubs and organizations will start to meet and sorority spring recruitment is also during that week, so it will definitely be busy. However, since I will be seeing my friends everyday and will be eating my meals with them, I'm not too worried about making plans.

Making time for yourself

As extroverted am I may be, I do need my personal time and I like some quiet/alone time. I am trying to find new things to do besides just doom scrolling on my phone for two hours. I finished my coloring page this week, so that's fun. I took me a good amount of time trying to get all the fun little details. Finishing this coloring page gave that satisfaction of finishing a project and you get to enjoy a pretty picture afterwards. As much as I like scrolling through the social media, I like to think too much of anything isn't good for you, so I like to have other options to keep me occupied and to also not overstimulate myself. It's not very relaxing when you're overwhelm.

Thanks for checking

I hope you had fun learning on how I'm trying to keep a good balance on things so I don't go crazy at college, I know not every week will be as smooth as this one. That's all for now, catch y'all later!💗
